SCHOOL OF EGYPTOLOGY

Egyptology, despite having a centuries-old tradition in many European countries, has only just begun to gain a foothold at a university level in Spain, often facing difficulties. Given this situation –along with a significant increase in people interested in ancient Egypt in recent years– the Clos Archaeological Foundation, backed by its experience in the organisation and development of training programmes, wanted to take on the challenge of creating comprehensive and outstanding Egyptology courses, comparable in terms of educational content to those offered across Europe.

This project was launched in 2000 and eventually grew into the School of Egyptology, the first private institution of higher Egyptology education in our country. The doors of the School of Egyptology opened to its first class of students in February 2001 and has continually focused on offering a line of study that consistently and educationally includes every aspect of an Egyptology degree.

The Master’s Degree from the School of Egyptology is a private degree granted by the Clos Archaeological Foundation. The committee that sets the School guidelines and curriculum is composed of:

• Dr. Josep Montserrat, Director Emeritus of the School of Egyptology

• Prof. Luis M. Gonzálvez, Director of Studies of the School of Egyptology

• Dr. Javier Martínez, Professor, School of Egyptology

Supplementary activities

A number of supplementary activities are organised in addition to the core subjects:

• Lectures given by eminent international Egyptologists

• Advanced seminars

• Study tour to Egypt at the end of each course
