What is the secret of hieroglyphic writing?

Why did hieroglyphs fall out of use? Who discovered them? How were they deciphered?

In this workshop, students will become true scribes of Ancient Egypt. Through observation of real and replica hieroglyphic texts, they will discover how this fascinating symbolic writing system worked. They will learn about the importance of the Rosetta Stone, Champollion’s role, and how a language lost for centuries was deciphered. Finally, they will put what they have learned into practice by writing their name in hieroglyphs on authentic papyrus, experiencing firsthand the art of writing as the ancient Egyptians did.

A creative, educational, and surprising activity that connects history, language, and scientific curiosity.
