Bes was one of the most popular deities in Greco-Roman Egypt. On the one hand, his figure often appears in contexts related to sexual activity. On the other, his protective duties were also directed towards women during childbirth, newborns, and children. He could ward off evil with the sound of a musical instrument or with a sword.
