The pharaoh represented the highest level of the social pyramid: as the bearer of divine blood, he was the high priest who had to build temples and maintain the worship of the gods, commander-in-chief of the armies, supreme judge... in short, the guarantor of the cosmic order that ensured the proper functioning of the universe.
