Obelisk of Hemre
Old Kingdom, 6th Dynasty (2323-2150 BC)
Limestone
Height: 30 cm
Inv.: MEB E-302
These small obelisks have been found mainly in the cult chapels of Old Kingdom tombs, in front of the chapel door or inside it. Besides their religious connotations with the solar deity, they are elements that provide the most important information about the tomb owner: his name and his title.
The hieroglyphic text reads: "...venerated with Anubis, he who is upon his mountain, Sole Friend (of the King), Hemre".
