Stele of Queen Cleopatra VII
Ptolemaic period, reign of Cleopatra VII (51-30 BC)
Limestone
Height: 32.5 cm
Inv.: MEB E-238
Pharaoh Cleopatra VII and, behind her, the king (Ptolemy XIII or XIV) make offerings to two deities. Despite the absence of hieroglyphic texts, Dr. Jean Yoyotte based his identification of this queen on the fact that she appears before the gods in front of the pharaoh, something that can only be justified in the case of a queen of extreme importance.
