One of the characteristics of Egyptian religion is the large number of gods that comprise it.
In the wall paintings of temples and tombs, or on the surface of objects of all kinds, divine names and images frequently appear: human-looking, male or female, animal or mixed, human body and animal head, or vice versa; individualised or associated with couples, triads or larger groups, depending on their mythological relationships; divine entities that evoke elements of nature (the sun, the Nile River, vegetation) or human concepts and feelings (love, hate, beauty, order, chaos); gods linked to specific activities (agriculture, hunting, war, childbirth, funeral rituals).
